About Mr. Sullivan Mr.
Gene Sullivan has been a Georgia educator for over 33 years. He brings with him
experience at almost every level of the educational arena.
Mr. Sullivan’s career in education began in 1971 with the Columbia
County School System where he served in several positions.
During his tenure at Columbia County he served as a teacher, assistant
principal, vocational supervisor, and was principal of Harlem, Evans, and
Greenbrier High Schools. While at
Harlem, the school was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence,
National School of Excellence, and was named one of the nation’s most improved
schools by Redbook Magazine. Evans
High School was also recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence during Mr.
Sullivan’s tenure. In 1991 Mr.
Sullivan was selected as a Milken National Education Award recipient. In
1996 Mr. Sullivan assumed the position of Deputy Superintendent of the Richmond
County School System. As deputy,
his duties included supervision of the departments of maintenance, architectural
services, transportation, athletics, and social services. He is most proud of the renovations and new construction
projects totaling over $300,000,000.00 while he was deputy. He worked closely with the system’s 58 principals, serving
as a point of contact for discipline, personnel, construction, and operational
issues. He greatly respected the
role of the principal and strived to serve in their best interests.
Mr. Sullivan remained Richmond County Deputy Superintendent until his
retirement in 2004. Mr. Sullivan’s passion and commitment to education has kept
him directly involved in the profession. Since
his retirement, he has served as a college admissions counselor, an interim
assistant principal, a student disciplinary tribunal member, an educational
consultant, and a member of the Columbia County Schools Superintendent Search
Committee. |
